How to get from Airport Adolfo Suarez Madrid Barajas to Atocha Street 43, Hostal Atocha Almudena Martín:
Upon arrival, you’ll find clearly marked taxi stands outside the arrivals area of all terminals.
- How to identify them: Official taxis in Madrid are white, have a red diagonal stripe on the front doors, and display the City Hall emblem.
- Price (Flatrate): The cost of a direct ride from the airport to Hostal Atocha is €33. This is an official flat rate, so no additional charges apply (luggage storage, late-night surcharges, and airport taxes are already included). The meter must be running and set to “Rate 4.”
Travelling by metro from Madrid-Barajas Airport (Adolfo Suárez) to Hostal Atocha is a convenient and affordable option. You can access the metro directly from the stations located in Terminal 2 (T1-T2-T3) or Terminal 4 (T4).
Our nearest metro station is Antón Martín (Line 1). You have two main options for getting there:
Option 1: The direct route by Metro. This is the easiest way if you prefer to travel exclusively on the underground network:
- Line 8 (Pink): Take it from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios station.
- Line 10 (Dark Blue): Change trains and travel to Tribunal station.
- Line 1 (Light Blue): Change to this line (towards Valdecarros) and get off at Antón Martín station. The hostel is just a short walk from the exit!
Option 2: The combined route (Metro + Cercanías). This is usually a little quicker as it has fewer stops along the way:
- Metro Line 8 (Pink) from the airport to Nuevos Ministerios.
- Transfer to Renfe Cercanías: Within the same station, take any train on lines C3 or C4 and get off at Atocha station.
- Final stretch: From Atocha, connect again with Metro Line 1 (towards Pinar de Chamartín) and get off at Antón Martín (it’s only two stops). If you don’t have much luggage, you can also walk this last stretch (about 10–15 minutes).
Useful information for your trip:
- Opening hours: The underground runs every day from 6.00 am to 1.30 am.
- Fares and Tickets: You will need to purchase a rechargeable Multi Card from the machines at the station (it costs €2.50). The price of a metro ticket ranges from €1.50 to €2.00, but please note that to enter or exit the airport station, you must pay the Airport Surcharge (€3.00). The ticket machines allow you to buy the card, ticket and surcharge in a single transaction.
- Estimated journey time: The total journey takes around 45–55 minutes, depending on the time of day and connections.
Tip for travellers with lots of luggage or arriving late at night:
We suggest you consider taking the Airport Express bus (Line 203). It runs 24 hours a day, costs €5.00 (payable directly on board) and its final stop is at Atocha Station, very close to our hostel.
The quickest and most convenient way to get here by bus from Madrid-Barajas Airport is to take the Airport Express bus (Route 203). These buses are yellow, so they’re very easy to spot, and they stop at Terminals T1, T2 and T4 (on the arrivals level).

- Price: A ticket costs €5.00.
- How to pay: You pay the driver directly on board. You can pay in cash (we recommend bringing small notes, up to a maximum of €20) or by contactless card.
- Luggage: These coaches are designed with passengers in mind and feature spacious overhead racks where you can stow your suitcases comfortably.
- Journey time: Approximately 40 minutes in normal traffic conditions.
Timetables and stops (Important!): The service runs 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but its route varies depending on the time of day you travel:
- Day Service (from 06:00 to 23:30): The bus terminates at Atocha Station. From there, our hostel (in the Antón Martín area) is about a 10–15-minute walk along Calle Atocha. If you’re travelling with a lot of luggage, you can take Metro Line 1 from Atocha and get off at Antón Martín (it’s only two stops) or take a taxi, which is a very short and inexpensive journey.
- Night Service (from 23:30 to 06:00): During the early hours of the morning (when it is renamed the N27 line), Atocha Station is closed, so the final stop is Plaza de Cibeles. It’s about a 15–20-minute walk from Cibeles to the hostel. At night, if you’re carrying luggage, the most convenient option when you get off at Cibeles is to take a taxi from the square itself straight to the hostel’s door.
