Today, Hostal Atocha Almudena Martín is run by Almudena and Raúl, the second generation of a family-run business that has successfully adapted to changes in Madrid and new ways of traveling. Alongside them, a friendly and professional team works every day to ensure that every stay is comfortable, hassle-free, and well-cared-for.
Almudena oversees the guest experience, paying close attention to every detail that makes a difference: the welcome, the service, the personalized attention, and the feeling of being at ease from the very first moment. She also promotes innovative solutions designed to make the stay more comfortable, such as the virtual check-in system, which streamlines arrival and reduces wait times so that every guest can settle in, rest, or start exploring Madrid from the very first minute and at any time
Raúl oversees operations and maintenance, ensuring that everything runs with the level of quality, order, and care expected of a property located in the heart of Madrid.

A little history… 1977. The beginning.
The hostel opened as a family business. A house attached to a hostel—a long-standing hostel right in the heart of Madrid…
Initially, the name “Hostal Peinado” was considered, after Almudena’s mother’s maiden name, but many people assumed there was a hair salon inside, so the idea was discarded. The family decided to change it to “Hostal Martín.” A practical decision that perfectly reflects their approach: direct, friendly, and unpretentious. Over time, the establishment adopted a name linked to its location, Atocha Street, one of Madrid’s most iconic and recognizable thoroughfares.
The Building and Its History
The hostel is housed in an early 20th-century building that retains some of its original features: wooden staircases, balconies, bay windows, and the front door.
Like many buildings of that era, it featured separate entrances and old garages—details that still contribute to the building’s character and history.
A cultural anecdote
The building’s staircase served as the setting for one of the scenes in the film *Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown*, featuring Pedro Almodóvar, Carmen Maura, and Rossy de Palma. A small episode that is now part of the building’s history and memory.
